The 3d, m=1 orbital

 

 

The n=3, l=2, m=1 (or m=-1) state. This one looks a little like the 2pz, only broader... Actually, what happens is that the probability as a function of the colatitude "theta" is not maximal neither at the equator nor at the poles, but rather around halfway between. So there is actually a "dip" in probabilty at the north and south poles... You can see it when you look straight down (it's pretty hard to tell from any other angle, though).
